Project Beginnings:
Great Start is Michigan’s nationally recognized statewide initiative to foster school readiness and life success for young children. Governor Jennifer Granholm launched Project Great Start in her 2005 State of the State address. The governor described this new initiative as a movement that challenges us all to recognize that education begins at birth, not simply when a child enters school.
The Ingham GSC has funding from the Office of Great Start within the Michigan Department of Education. To learn more about the Great Start Initiative in Michigan, read this excellent reference guide: Early Childhood, Great Start & the Early Childhood Investment Corporation.

The Ingham GSC publishes a Parent Resource Guide for parents with children birth to 5. The guide – which can be browsed, downloaded or printed – includes community agency descriptions and contact information on the following six topics: prenatal education; parent education classes; parent support groups; parenting resources; home visitation; and parent-child activities. The goal of the Parent Resource Guide is to give parents information about a variety of education, supports and services that help strengthen the vital roles that families play in their children’s development.
