Sharing from our colleagues at Pritzker Children’s Initiative:
Dear Colleagues,
We know that accessible, affordable, high-quality child care allows families to work and offers babies the nurturing learning environment they need for healthy development. It helps builds a future for our families, our economy and our nation. And as our economy recovers, we know that our nation’s child care infrastructure remains in crisis.
With support from the Pritzker Family Foundation, PBS NewsHour, one of the nation’s most trusted nightly news sources, has produced an upcoming week-long series on child care in the United States entitled Raising Our Future: America’s Child Care Dilemma. The series is scheduled to run in five nightly segments during the week of July 12th.
Each segment will have a specific focus that will be covered in a 7-10 minute package. We anticipate that the particular needs of infants and toddlers will be woven throughout the series.
Members of the National Collaborative for Infants and Toddlers are developing a set of toolkits building off our earlier Kids Are Essential effort to help support the conversation around our nation’s insufficient child care infrastructure.
The first of these toolkits is designed for the pre-broadcast period (July 5-11).
Please use this toolkit to promote the series and amplifying the need for high-quality infant/toddler care. It includes messages, resources and sample social media posts to use as part of our collective efforts to expand the understanding of this critical issue.
We’ll soon follow up with similar toolkits for broadcast week and post-broadcast that will incorporate resources from the series.
Thank you to our partners at Center for American Progress, Council for a Strong America, First Five Nebraska, National Association of Counties Research Foundation, National Association for the Education of Young Children, Pennsylvania Partnership for Children, Ready for School, Ready for Life, and ZERO TO THREE for their help in creating this resource.
We appreciate your partnership,
Gerry Cobb
